Update from DSH

I think it’s only fair to update on Imtiyaz’s condition now. From the phone calls and emails (not forgetting the comments left on the blog too) I received today, I thank you all so much for the concern, and the well wishes.

The diarrhea count has gone down to only about 4 times today, which is a great improvement to yesterday’s urmmm… 20?! I’m not kidding you. The fact that his bum has no blisters and he doesn’t complain nor whine surprises me, really. The only action that tells me he is in pain is when he clutches his tummy and says “sakit perut”. Then he’ll request the toilet.

I noticed, to him ‘tummy ache’ and ‘sakit perut’ have 2 different meanings. ‘Tummy ache’ is the normal nature calls he gets every day, whilst ‘sakit perut’ comes with some pain. The first few days he clutches his tummy (he had the same pain the first few days we were in the hospital last week), I would ask, “tummy ache?”, to which he replies, “No. Sakit perut.

Alhamdulillah, he’s so much better now. He’s starting to eat a little which is a huge relief, and he doesn’t seem as tired as he was yesterday. I predict we would still be in the hospital for a few more days. His stool sample has also been sent for test just to rule out any harm, though the doctor said he does look fine.

I do hope it’s just some normal tummy bug bugging him now.

    momster dear,

thanks for keeping us posted (in detail!). 20 down to 4 is such an improvement. He’s a brave boy I must say.

4 is definitely a a big improvement! i hope its not H1N1 but sounds very much like rota virus. i bet he’s on a drip. do the rehydration salts come in flavours back home? you can probably entice him with the different flavours. 7-up is good too. thats what we use on the wards here.

it might take a while for him to recover as sometimes the diarrhea can last for another few days and in some cases weeks. but sure – dont worry….most kids recover very quickly. its all part and parcel of growing up 😀 (oppss..sounding too much like a doctor here…heheh)

but anyway, i get emotional with aidan too..hilang semua ape yg belajar sebelum ni…hahaha. thats when daddy takes over!

    Ms B,
Big relief and don’t worry, I am getting the rest I need because I only need to entertain him on the PS2 or cartoonnetwork.com, eventhough to sneak in some naps during the day is kinda impossible! 😉

the doc did mention it could be some bacteria/parasites. he got the orange flavoured salts but it’s still a no-no. haven’t tried 7-up but i do know he’s not a soda drinker! he only wants water direct from his tumbler! 😛

you are still lucky you got someone to turn to even when you get emotional with aidan! hehe.

don’t worry. i am getting enough rest here since there’s nothing much i can do. even to walk out of the room and wander around the hospital is scary! 😛

So glad Imtiyaz is doing better. He sure deserves a big treat after all this is over – for being such a brave boy! Imran is almost back to normal although is still not fully himself, i.e not eating much and less energetic.

You’re so right – even to wander around the hospital is scary. Hmm.. the world we live in now eh? Anyway glad you manage to sneak in some rest as I think people tend to forget the suffering of the parents when the kids fall ill! XX
