The Boy and Sounds

February 17, 2009 at 10:41 am 7 comments

This year, Imtiyaz has started 1-to-1 reading in school, and sometimes he would bring back reading materials for us to read together with him.

I noticed for the technique they are applying in school, the first few letters they learn is “i”, “t” and “o”, apart from number 1 and 2, and another 2 chinese characters I can’t type with my keyboard at the mo.πŸ˜›

Last 2 nights conversation in the car, I asked him :

How do you write an “ee” sound? (which is an “i”)

To which he answered with some hand motion,

You draw straight line to the bottom, and… dot!

Ok. The same goes for “te-h” sound (which is a “t”),

You draw straight line to the bottom, and… like that! (to which he showed a line across the straight line)

Then he asked me,

Mama, how do you write “Teen Titans” sound?

Huh? Teen Titans sound? How do you write that?

Again, with hand motion, and almost the same speech as above, he drew imaginary line equivalent to a… “T”!

Teen Titans sound = T

His own invention, obviously! Too much of Cartoon Network la nih…πŸ˜€
