Reykjavik, Iceland – Part I
November 21, 2008
The journey to Reykjavik, Iceland was long. KL to Bangkok on Thai Airways, and transit for 2 hours before we got on the Scandinavian Airlines to Copenhagen, Denmark. At Copenhagen the transit was for a good 6 hours, before we hopped on Iceland Air for another 3 hour journey. So the total came up to a good 26 hours, more or less.
But no, I still didn’t sleep while waiting for dinner. Upon arrival, and freshened ourselves up, a few of us decided to just take a walk to downtown Reykjavik. Not much of goings-on though because it was already past 6pm. We returned just in time to see the team from Norway arriving at the hotel.
Next up was dinner at a Viking Restaurant. Spent some time catching up with colleagues, and amusing ourselves with the on and off act from the Viking performers. I was already super tired halfway through dinner, because of the long journey & I don’t sleep well on flights – any flights!
Day 2
The next day, after breakfast, we had the meeting, which turned out to be a little bit ‘hotter’ than expected. Apparently, there were rumors on the company selling our business unit because it doesn’t really fit into the new direction of the company, so everyone was pushing the boss to reveal the truth, or whatever he knows. And yes, it’s confirmed, just that we don’t know how much it would affect the current operation, in a way. Oh-well, just have to wait and see!
Then we proceeded with the city tour. And guess what? It snowed!! A thrill for some of us who saw snow for the first time, but for me, anytime is exciting when it comes to snow! Tak kira laa first time or not… rite?
We ended the tour with a trip to the swimming pool… konon2 to do what the locals do…
Haaa… masuk changing room terkejut!
Because their custom is to take a shower – nude! Because they need to ensure you clean up properly with soap before entering the pool. And there is only 1 shower with curtain. Go figure!
We survived, minus the humiliation of having to expose all, thankfully. And the experience was wonderful! Imagine dipping in a hot tub when the temperature outside is around 0 degrees or lower, and the tub is out in the open, mind you! The walk from changing room to the pool was the coldest ever!
There is a proper pool for swimming, and several hot tubs with different temperatures, so you get to go from one to another. Sorry, I don’t have pictures of the pool, but you can always google!

Dinner for that night is at the Perlan Restaurant, similar to KL Tower’s rotating restaurant. The restaurant gently completes a full rotation every two hours, but since it was night time, I didn’t see much of a view actually – it was just lights everywhere. The night ended at one of the nightclubs in town for some of us.
To be continued…
